From one young boy’s curiosity to thirty years of discovery, artistry, and connection.

Long before Starborn Creations had a name, years before the gem shows, Sedona office, and Bali workshop.... there was a young boy who was captivated by the natural world.

Growing up in Germany, Arne Christophersen explored the quarries of Idar-Oberstein in search of agates and collected amber along the country’s northern coast. These early discoveries sparked a fascination that would shape his life: an appreciation for the extraordinary colors, textures, and forms nature creates, and the magnificent stories held within them.

That curiosity and adoration for the wonders hidden within the earth eventually grew into a career in gemstone sourcing and trading. Arne's search for unusual materials carried him around the world, building lasting relationships with miners, collectors, lapidaries, and artisans. With each journey came new discoveries and possibilities for bringing the beauty of natural stone into everyday life.

In September of 1996, that vision became Starborn Creations.

Nestled in the beautiful Red Rock country of Sedona, Arizona, Starborn brought together Arne’s passion for natural materials and an imaginative approach to jewelry. Meteorites, Moldavite, amber, fossils, and unusual gems offered a vision of their own. Their distinctive shapes and textures became part of the design, inviting people to see jewelry as something expressive, individual, and deeply connected to the natural world.

“Where Jewelry Is Art” became the expression of our philosophy.

As Starborn grew, its Bali workshop became central to the story. Skilled silversmiths, stone carvers, and artisans brought our vision and designs to life through patient work by hand. Each piece reflected a collaboration between the material, the designer, and the maker: a stone’s contours inspiring a setting, its patterns suggesting a carving, its character guiding the finished creation, helping to share the stone in a different context without taking away the original beauty found within it.

Over the past three decades, these working relationships transformed enduring friendships. Arne’s long collaboration with Bali workshop manager Robert is one such thread, woven through years of shared discoveries, mining trips, mentorship, and creative work. The workshop’s history is also the history of the people and families whose skill and dedication have helped shape Starborn, passed down through generations.

The designs continued to evolve. Early creations gave way to an expanding world of rare minerals, sculptural carvings, expressive silverwork, and unexpected combinations of natural materials. Looking back at original pieces from the late 1990s, the connection is still unmistakable: the same adventurous spirit, the same attention to the stone, and the same willingness to create something unusual.

From the first trade shows to a growing international community, Starborn’s story has been carried forward by people. By the artisans who make each piece, the colleagues who share its story, and the customers who find something meaningful in a particular stone or design. Some have been part of that journey for decades; others are discovering it for the first time.

In 2026, Starborn celebrates thirty years of creation. It is a milestone built through countless journeys, lasting friendships, and the work of many hands.

And at its heart, there is still that original curiosity, the impulse to look closer, to pick up a stone, and to wonder what it might become....

Thirty years later, the discovery continues.
